Lamps and CELEBRATIONWARE
This is a selection of forms from a series I undertook between 2012-2013. The original inspiration for these forms comes from the funerary vessels of 5th century Korean Silla Dynasty. Meant to contain the ashes of the deceased, these lamps and storage vessels were used during ceremonies to honor the spirit and memory of that individual. But maybe we shouldn't have to wait for death to honor life. Indeed, life is an occasion to celebrate itself. The idea of a pedestal suggests the importance of the moment this object functions for. The ceremonies these objects belong to can occur at any time. What are the moments of life that celebrate the presence of your being? These domestic suggestions of remembering and honoring how special it is to have life hope to bring a whole new level of appreciation that we sometimes struggle to keep inside our hearts day to day.
